Objectives for the work in Jamaica to 2014A brief summary is that we are working to establish a training centre that will serve the Caribbean (and those from further afield that want to learn about youth and community work in a developing world setting) that works alongside practical models of local community transformation in West Kingston. This training centre will provide practical skills for young people in crisis as well as training for those who seek to work with them, their communities and also those who work with children and families within those communities. (Fusion is a registered training organization, delivering courses from Certificate III to Advanced Diploma) Some other objectives to 2014 are: To make use of the Jamaican story and particularly the 50-year celebrations in 2012 to grow the annual “Journey to Freedom” Pilgrimage so that it targets both Jamaican young people and people overseas. To produce a manual outlining our process for dialogical community research by Dec 2010, and continue to produce research documents on Jamaican and Caribbean communities to assist in strategic planning towards local community transformation. Our objectives also include offering Fusion’s training and working models for building social capital to others from local churches, schools and business through various programmes that have been developed for each of these groups.
